I never thought I’d be single at over 40 – Don Jazzy

Nigerian music executive, record producer, singer, songwriter, businessman, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy, has disclosed that he did not plan to be unmarried at 42.

Don Jazzy, who once revealed that he married but the union fell apart, is the founder of Mavin Records, arguably Nigeria’s most popular music record label.

According to Lifeissues Magazine, the philanthropist said he would give marriage a chance if the circumstances presents itself but maintained that his fulfillment is not tied to marriage.

“If you had asked me years ago what life would look like at 42, I definitely wouldn’t have said ‘unmarried’,” he was quoted as saying.

“Honestly, I never thought I’d hit 40-something and still be single. Maybe that’s the one thing I lost along the way. But here we are. The truth that I’m fine. If love comes, it comes. If marriage happens, great. If it doesn’t, I’m still good. My happiness isn’t tied to marriage. Somewhere along the journey, I learned to embrace the life I have—the music, the wins, the family I’ve built with Mavin, the impact. These alone to me is fulfillment.

“Sometimes I wonder, if the whole Mavin dream hadn’t worked, what would I be doing? I think I’d still have found my place in entertainment—maybe as a full-time artist, or even as an influencer. Either way, I was never going to stray too far from music and people.

“And yes, people forget this part, but I was married once—back in my early twenties. Before fame, before the madness of the industry took over my world. Life has a way of shifting your path when you least expect it.

“So today, I live in peace with where I am. I keep building stars, building legacies, and leaving the door to love open. If it knocks again, I’ll answer. If it doesn’t, I’ll still dance to the beat of my own journey.”
