Tinubu to Nigerians: Your painful economic surgery has returned growth, prosperity

President Bola Tinubu has told Nigerians that the nation has turned the corner from his painful economic reforms.

Tinubu said this in Ibadan on Friday, during the coronation of Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The president appreciated Nigerians for voting for him in the 2023 presidential election, noting that the country’s economy is now growing and delivering prosperity.

He commended the people for enduring the difficulties resulting from the reforms introduced by his administration.

“Today, I am honoured and very proud to give you the cheering news that the economy has turned the corner; there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu said.

“Your suffering is a pain of a painful surgery, but it has returned to the moment of growth and prosperity that is awaiting us. Thank you for perseverance, endurance, and understanding.”

Since assuming office in 2023, the Tinubu-led administration has initiated some policies, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of segments of the foreign exchange (FX) market.

The removal of the petrol subsidy led to a sudden rise in the cost of transport fares and basic food items.

The coronation was attended by political and traditional leaders. Among the governors present were Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, Ademola Adeleke of Osun, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti.

Other dignitaries included Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power; Zacch Adedeji, chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); Ibikunle Amosun, former governor of Ogun; and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano.

Traditional rulers at the event included Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and Abimbola Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo.
