A twin explosion which rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, on Monday, has reportedly claimed several lives, leaving others injured.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, one of the explosions occurred at the Maiduguri main Market shortly after iftar, around 7pm.
Makama said the other explosion was at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
A video shared on social media shows several injured people being rushed to a hospital for treatment. Some of the victims were taken to the hospital in a tricycle and later sat on the floor, with blood stains all over them.
As of the time of filing this report, the Borno state police command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
However, Mohammed Kafaran, head of operations of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Borno, confirmed the blast, saying the agency had deployed its team to the scene.
