The prolonged lack and epileptic electricity being experienced by most residents of Lagos State has forced those staying in the Agbada axis to stage a protest at the office of Ikeja Electric.
The protesters, mainly women, were said to have blocked the entrance to the office of the electricity distribution company, while asking for the quick restoration of power supply to the area.
The residents said the blackout has been on for several weeks, disrupting economic activities, affecting households and increasing the financial burden on residents who now rely heavily on alternative power sources.
Some members of the community pointed accusing fingers at Ikeja Electric of failing to provide enough information on the cause of the outage or when electricity would be restored.
The protesting residents further alleged that many complaints filed with the power firm did not yield zttle response, prompting them to organise the protest.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the residents called on relevant authorities to intervene and ensure a lasting solution to the electricity crisis in the community.
Reacting to the protest, officials of Ikeja Electric appealed to residents to remain calm, explaining that the outage was caused by technical issues.
The company assured the community that efforts were ongoing to rectify the fault and restore stable electricity supply to the affected areas.
The protest shows the rising discontent among residents in Lagos State over persistent electricity supply challenges and the consequent economic impact such blackout has on businesses and homes..
