Ndidi suspended for play-off final vs DRC

Nigeria will be without midfield anchor Wilfred Ndidi for their crucial World Cup playoff final this weekend after the Leicester City man picked up a second yellow card in qualification during the 4-1 extra-time win over Gabon.

Ndidi’s early booking for a foul on Denis Bouanga means he must serve a one-match suspension, ruling him out of the final against either Cameroon or DR Congo.

The Super Eagles, led by coach Eric Chelle, will remain in Rabat, Morocco, for Sunday’s showdown as they continue their push for a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ndidi’s absence leaves a gap in midfield, with Raphael Onyedika and Frank Onyeka both in contention to replace him. However, Onyeka must tread carefully as he also received a booking against Gabon and is now one caution away from suspension.

Victor Osimhen, who scored twice in extra-time to seal Nigeria’s win, is among seven players walking a disciplinary tightrope.

He was booked for removing his shirt during his goal celebration, and another yellow would see him miss a potential inter-confederation play-off.

Other players at risk include Onyeka, goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, and several unnamed squad members.
With yellow cards only wiped before the World Cup tournament itself, Nigeria’s stars must navigate the final with discipline to avoid jeopardizing their availability for the next stage.
