Militao out for four months with injury

The Real Madrid defender will miss around four months after scans revealed a serious muscle tear in his left leg, adding another chapter to an injury run that has plagued him for three consecutive seasons.

The fears that arose after Éder Militao went down injured against Celta Vigo have now been confirmed. The Real Madrid medical staff revealed that the Brazilian center-back suffered a muscle tear in the biceps femoris of his left leg, with involvement of the proximal tendon—an injury that will sideline him for approximately four months.

“Following tests carried out on our player Éder Militao by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with a tear in the biceps femoris of his left leg with involvement of the proximal tendon. Pending evolution,” the club stated in its official medical report.

Militao’s latest setback occurred 21 minutes into the Matchday 15 clash in LaLiga, when he collapsed after attempting to block a shot from Pablo Durán. The defender immediately grabbed the back of his left thigh, signaling a serious problem.

After allowing internal swelling to decrease, Militao underwent an MRI at the Ciudad Real Madrid facilities, confirming the worst-case scenario. This new injury adds to a growing list that has severely disrupted his availability in recent years.

In August 2023, Militao tore the ACL in his left knee, returning only in March 2024. The following season, he suffered another major blow: a complete ACL tear in his right knee with meniscus damage, which kept him out for eight months and limited him to just 18 appearances—including a brief return during the Club World Cup semifinal against PSG in July 2025.

Since his first major injury with the club, Militao has featured in just 46 of the 146 official matches played by Real Madrid, highlighting the extent to which injuries have derailed his career. Now, he faces yet another demanding rehabilitation process.

The Brazilian will miss the Spanish Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, and a significant portion of the league campaign. If recovery goes according to schedule, Militao could return around April—when the UEFA Champions League reaches the quarterfinal stage and LaLiga enters its decisive stretch.
