In a last minute push, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rallied Nigerians to ensure they get registered as the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise will end today as earlier announced.
JESNews reports that in August 2025, INEC started the first phase of the CVR with online pre-registration, which was followed by in-person registration on August 25.
At the conclusion of the first phase in December, INEC recorded 2,572,054 completed registrations nationwide, comprising 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 in-person.
The second phase started on January 5 and ended on April 17, with 3,748,704 completed registrations across the country.
In May, INEC started its third phase CVR exercise.
In July, the commission stated that it had prolonged the CVR exercise by two weeks.
Giving an update through an X post on Sunday, INEC appealed to eligible Nigerians to register to vote and update their voter information before today’s deadline.
“Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” INEC said.
“Register to vote or update your voter information before the close of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) today, Sunday, 26 July 2026.”
The commission said prospective voters should complete their registration online through its CVR portal or visit any of its state or local council offices before the close of the exercise.
INEC further said that eligible voters should not tarry until it is too late, adding
that participation in the CVR exercise is the first step to casting one’s ballot in 2027 general election.
