Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has declared that the south-east region’s five governors have agreed to pull their support towards the second term bid of President Bola Tinubu.
Uzodimma, who is the chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum (SEGF), disclosed this, during a meeting with the Imo state elders council and traditional rulers in Owerri.
The governor said since the start of his administration, Tinubu has shown unprecedented commitment to the development of the South east region under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with tangible evidence to show.
“The South-east has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground,” said the Imo governor.
“We, the five governors of the south-east, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of the Project Nigeria.”
Uzodimma stated that the governors would soon pay a joint courtesy visit to the president to further seal their partnership with the federal government.
He highlighted the South East Development Commission Act signed into law in 2024 as one of the remarkable moves tailored by Tinubu to address long-standing developmental concerns in the region.
He said since signing the law, Tinubu has ensured that the commission commenced operations with required funding, a feat he described as unprecedented in the history of the region.
The governor added that the president also approved a $3 billion reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor stretching from Port Harcourt through the south-east to Maiduguri, a project he said would significantly boost commerce and regional integration.
Uzodimma also cited the execution of the Phase 2A and 2B access roads to the Second Niger Bridge, including the dual carriageway linking Umunya, Ogbunike, Ogidi, Nkpor and Asaba, with seven bridges along the corridor.
He further highlighted the rehabilitation and commencement of commercial operations on the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, which he said would reconnect the south-east to the national rail network.
