Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Rivers state.
Fubara disclosed this in a statement he personally signed, saying he would support whoever emerges as the candidate of the party.
He said that although the decision was difficult, he remained committed to backing whoever emerges as the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election.
The governor expressed gratitude to his supporters for their total loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process, acknowledging the disappointment many of them may feel over his decision to step aside.
He noted that his silence was intentional and guided by what he described as the higher interest of the state, noting that he had faced enormous pressure and difficult choices, expressing gratitude to the APC for providing him with a platform during the process and thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
Fubara urged party faithful and supporters to stay steadfast and united, noting that the APC remains a collective political family committed to building a stronger future for the state.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries.
“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” added Fubara.
