The Plateau state police command has narrated how 12 persons were killed in the early hours of Friday when unknown armed men attacked Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall district of Bassa LGA.
Alabo Alfred, spokesperson of the Plateau police command, confirmed the incident, stating that the victims have been buried in a mass grave.
“From the information we received, 12 people were killed in the attack and the victims had already been buried this morning,” Alfred said.
He refused to provide more details about the victims, while ventilating deep sorrow over the attack.
Reports indicated that the attack occurred around midnight while residents were asleep, with 13 people said to have been affected, including three pregnant women.
Philip Alanga, a member of the community, said the assailants shot sporadically, forcing many residents to flee their homes.
Danjuma Auta, secretary-general of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), stated that the attacks on communities in Bassa LGA and other parts of the state has not abated,
He appealed to security operatives to swiftly track down those responsible for the attack and ensure justice is served and to deter further violence in the area.
