After weeks of speculations, Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
This followed several delays in his proposed defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to report, the delay was caused by lack of agreement with the APC on guaranteed second term, as well as his position in the party in the state.
Earlier this week, Yusuf met with President Bola Tinubu after he returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where he attended the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
On Friday night, APC National Secretary, Bashiru Ajibola, shared a video in which the NNPP flag is being taken off the governor’s office in Kano.
He revealed that the governor defected with lawmakers, House of Representatives members and Local Government chairmen.
“Kano Governor dumps NNPP with lawmakers, LG Chairman. Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, resigns from the NNPP, along with 21 state lawmakers, 8 House of Reps members, and 44 LG chairmen. The NNPP flag has been removed from the Kano State Government House,” he stated.
Leader of the NNPP and former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is yet to react to the development.
