The Federal Government, through the Finance ministry, has assured that members of the Super Eagles of Nigeria will receive their AFCON ’25 bonuses by Friday.
According to the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite, the players will receive bonuses accrued during the group stage.
Report of unrest in the Eagles camp due to unpaid bonuses came to light on Wednesday, with players threatening to boycott training and refusing to travel for their quarter-final engagement with Algeria in Marrakesh.
The NFF disclosed that payment was being processed, and this has been corroborated by Uzoka-Anite, who added that FG, through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has honoured players’ preference for foreign currency, and fast-tracked the process for future payments.
“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay.
“Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice.
“All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages.
“We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences.
“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow.”
She assured of the FG’s support on the team’s welfare, towards the Super Eagles defeating Algeria on Saturday till the AFCON trophy returns to Nigeria from Morocco for the fourth time.
“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds.
“We move forward with one goal: Bringing the trophy home!”
