The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has dismissed a media report claiming he had declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat in Abia State in 2027.
Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Levinus Nwabugbiogu, who issued the statement on Sunday, said that Kalu is only focused on his four-year mandate of representing Bende Federal constituency and Nigerians at large.
The statement which demanded a retraction of the report by its publishers, alleged that the news was published without accuracy and designed to misinform the people.
“We categorically state that the report is baseless, unfounded, and lacks credibility.
“The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027,” he said.
However, the statement said that the “political family” of the Deputy Speaker, will announce his intentions at the appropriate time.
