Malami reveals EFCC invitation

Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, says he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Malami made the revelation in a post on his Facebook page on Friday.

The former minister said he would honour the invitation as a law-abiding citizen.

He made the disclosure in a brief statement posted on his Facebook page and said the decision to honour the invitation reflects his belief in accountability and transparency in public service.

“I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.

“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — the principles that I both advocate and champion.”

Malami added that he would keep Nigerians informed as developments unfold, adding that he remains committed to openness in matters concerning public trust.

In September, Malami’s convoy came under attack by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi state.

Malami later petitioned the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Director-General of the DSS, and the Comptroller-Generals of Immigration and civil defence corps over an alleged plot to destabilise Kebbi state through the importation of political thugs.

He was later invited by the DSS over the attack.

On November 17, Malami declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi state.

Malami resigned from the APC in July and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He said the decision followed “wide consultations and deep personal reflection”, adding that he left the ruling party out of “love for our nation and concern for the hardship our people are facing”.
