American basketball legend and star, LeBron James, has reignited the argument over who deserves the title of greatest player in NBA history.
In a statement that has not gone unnoticed, the four-time Mos Valuable Player (MVP) and four-time league champion affirmed that, in his view, the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) is neither Michael Jordan nor Stephen Curry, but rather his own career accomplishments place him at the very top.
James points to the historic 2016 NBA Finals comeback as the foundation of his claim, when he powered the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 4–3 win over the Golden State Warriors after trailing 3–1 in the series.
In 2018, after winning his third championship ring, James reflected on that moment:
“When I stopped crying, I thought: ‘That made me the greatest player of all time.’ Everyone was saying the Warriors were the best team ever… and for us to come back the way we did, to pull off that comeback, I thought: ‘You’ve done something special.’”
His statement ignited intense debate among fans and analysts alike, with many questioning whether his self-designation as GOAT should be measured by individual achievements, team impact, or historical influence on the league.
