Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, has decried the defeat to Morocco in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Rabat on Wednesday.
Osimhen who captained the team in the absence of Wilfred Ndidi who was suspended for the game, was caged throughout the encounter. The Eagles lost 4-2 on penalties after the clash ended goalless in 120 minutes of grueling football in front of a packed 70,000 fans at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
In an interview with Canal+ after the game, the Galatasaray star slammed the officiating. He lamented the team has to wait for another round of qualifiers to secure qualification to dream of winning it again.
“Me and my teammates are professionals, but it is disappointing, it is hurting because we have to wait for more years to try to qualify again for the AFCON and try to pro0ve a point. To be honest, today’s game was nothing to write home about in terms of the officiating. It was that bad,” he stated.
“For me, I have to say a big congratulations to the Moroccans, I’m proud of my team, we played against a very quality side and played in front of thousands of their fans. For me moving forwards, there are greater things that lie ahead but to be honest with you, the whole squad is sad because I believe we could have got this trophy. We just keep it moving.”
