The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has insisted that it got a court order restricting Monday’s #FreeNnamdiKanu protest.
Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, made the claim on Monday, while responding to questions during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
Hundeyin spoke about the protest demanding the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which took place in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday.
“We got a court order specifically about this protest, restricting protest from certain areas like the Aso Villa, the Supreme Court, the National Assembly, Eagle Square and Force Headquarters on the Shehu Shagari Way.
“The court order said the protesters are restricted from those areas mentioned,” he said.
The protest began in the morning, with human rights activist Omoyele Sowore at the forefront. The peaceful demonstration was, however, disperse by the police with teargas and alleged shooting of live bullets. Nnamdi Kanu’s brother and others were arrested.
