A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and activist in Bayelsa State, John Ayebabomote Birakumo, has claimed that former governor of the state and Nigerian ex-minister, Timiprye Sylva, is “facing political prosecution” dur to his huge influence in the South-south region.
He disclosed this in a statement on Monday, throwing his weight behind Sylva.
About a wek ago, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared Sylva wanted for an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257.
This followed reports linking Sylva to the sponsorship of an alleged coup attempt against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
However, the former governor denied all allegations.
Reacting, Birakumo said Sylva is facing political prosecution because his adversaries fear his influence in the Nigeria.
“We are raising awareness to alert Bayelsans and the entire APC family that Chief Timipre Sylva remains a committed and visionary leader of the APC,” he said.
“We are undeterred by the politically motivated persecution of Chief Sylva, knowing full well it is orchestrated by his detractors and political adversaries who fear his monumental influence not only in the state but across the region and nation.
“Chief Sylva is a true democrat and statesman who has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s development.”
