Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu ended his mini-drought as Trabzonspor played out a 1-1 draw with Alanyaspor on Saturday.
The Nigerian forward, who joined Trabzonspor in the summer, scored in the first half to end a two-game goalless run. After a bright start to the season, Onuachu had struggled to score in two previous league games against Eyüpspor and Galatasaray.
He ended the drought, skillfully beating his markers at the edge of the box before slotting past goalkeeper Erkan Taşkıran to give Trabzonspor the lead. The strike takes his tally for the season to eight goals and one assist in twelve appearances across all competitions.
Although the hosts dominated possession, Trabzonspor struggled to contain the visitors, allowing Alanyaspor several opportunities to threaten their goal. According to Opta, Trabzonspor completed 466 accurate passes, their highest in a single game this season.
However, they also conceded 25 shots, the most they have allowed in a home match since the start of the campaign. Onuachu’s strike was not enough to secure victory for the hosts, as Ianis Hagi drew Alanyaspor level in the 73rd minute.
The former Southampton striker will now be eager to maintain his form and boost his chances of earning a recall to the Nigerian national team for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON0, having missed out on Eric Chelle’s squad for the 2026 World Cup playoff against Gabon in Morocco.
