Pastor William Kumyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has warned members of the church to desist from persistently asking him to name his successor.
In a nine minute and 10 seconds long video on social media, the revered pastor was speaking at the church’s mega auditorium situated at Gbagada in Lagos.
The 84-year-old clergyman asked the congregation if they were tired of him, and they returned with a chorus answer: “No”.
Kumuyi then gave a stern warning over any attempt to control him, stressing that he would not even tolerate such from his wife.
“I need to get all these corrected, that was too much asking for successor. Your father in the Lord is still here. Are you tired of me? You are not going to fight your pastor or fight your shepherd. I say it publicly, I reject any member of the church, my child, anyone trying to control me, I won’t even take it from my wife because I am the head of the home and if she tries to control me, she knows knows,” he said.
He emphasised that a particular member of the church who preached at one of their recent services hammered on “successor” throughout his time on the pulpit.
Kumuyi said it was not in his place but God’s who he said will choose a successor when the time comes.
“I think the brother who taught the other Tuesday, I don’t want to mention your name, you know yourself. Two times you were mentioning successor, successor, there is no leadership without successor. I didn’t want to comment that day, but I felt that was too much asking for successor. You father in the Lord is still here and if God wants to give a successor, he will at his own time and when you look at Abraham, you look at Moses, they were not the people, they were not the ones that chose successors; God chose Joshua. He didn’t announce that to everybody. When Moses was still even in his hundred, 110 before he became 120, I’m wondering why is this young man emphasising successor, successor, are they tired of me…”
