The camp of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has been plunged into mourning following the shock death of the team’s assistant coach, Akin Olowookere.
Olowookere, who.once played for Sunshine Stars, was said to have fainted during a training session on Monday at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, while the team were getting set for Matchday 2 of the ValueJet Cup 2025.
Sources who witnessed the tragic incident said Olowookere collapsed in the middle of the session and received immediate medical attention before being taken to an hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Olowookere was recently unveiled as part of the new technical crew of Shooting Stars Sports Club after the departure of the Gbenga Ogunbote-led coaching staff.
In his playing days at Sunshine Stars, he earned a reputation for hard work, discipline, and humility. After retiring as a player, he moved into coaching, taking charge of Ekiti United, before serving as assistant coach under Edith Agoye at Sunshine Stars. He later moved to the Oluyole Warriors in a coaching capacity.
As of the time.of filing this report, Shooting Stars were yet to issue an official statement on the cause of death.
