The Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, has said nothing disqualifies Seyi Tinubu from contesting as Lagos State governor, even with his father being the president.
Bwala said this in an interview on ‘The Clarity Zone Podcast’.
The presidential aide stated that most people assume Seyi is engaging in charitable activities because of his political ambition.
He said although Seyi is yet to announce any political ambition, he should not be blackmailed for being the president’s son.
Bwala stressed that Seyi has the right to even challenge his father in the 2027 presidential election.
“I have known the children of presidents in Nigeria. He (Seyi) is unassuming. Check his friends, the childhood friends, and people he grew up with,” he said.
“He has not changed the community or friends because he has greatness so to speak.
“For political reasons, some people assume that the way he is doing a lot of welfare, which he did not start yesterday, that he wants to become governor.
“I asked: ‘Is he not qualified to be a governor?’ They said: ‘no, because his father is a president’.
“He has not said he is running but I’m just saying you don’t gaslight or blackmail someone. I said: ‘even if his father is a president, what stops him from running as a governor? He can even challenge his father in the election as a president.”
Speculations that Seyi intends to run for the office of Lagos governor in 2027 have been rife. The president’s son is yet to publicly declare a governorship ambition.
