Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has made a notable change to his social media presence following mounting criticism over his recent performances.
After Wednesday night’s 5–1 Champions League victory over Frankfurt, Salah removed both his profile picture and header image on X, leaving fans speculating about the motive behind the move.
Despite the team’s emphatic win, Salah began the match on the bench, a decision that didn’t surprise many supporters who have voiced frustration over his form this season.
The 33-year-old has recorded just three goals and three assists in 12 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, a dip that has drawn scrutiny from fans and pundits alike.
Salah was introduced for the final 16 minutes of the Frankfurt clash but faced criticism for his decision-making, particularly when he opted to shoot rather than pass to teammate Florian Wirtz, who was in a promising position inside the box.
The social media change has added fuel to the conversation, with many interpreting it as a response to the backlash. Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp weighed in on the broader issue of players and online behavior, urging transparency.
“We had a situation where a player posted something late at night and deleted it, but I still heard about it,’ Klopp said. ‘Even if it’s gone, I’ll walk into the dressing room and say, ‘Last night this happened, it got deleted, but maybe you want to explain it to everyone.’’
