Osimhen breaks two Galatasaray records after brace in UCL win vs Bodo/Glimt

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was once again the hero for Galatasaray as he fired a brace to inspire the Turkish giants to a 3-1 victory over Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League phase on Wednesday evening.

The Nigerian international opened the scoring just three minutes into the encounter at Rams Park, after connecting beautifully with a pass from Gabon international midfielder Mario Lemina.

Osimhen took a perfect first touch before sending a low strike into the bottom corner to give Galatasaray an early lead. The goal was not just another addition to Osimhen’s impressive tally but a historic moment for the Yellow-Reds and the Nigerian International.

According to the statisticians at Opta, Osimhen’s strike at exactly two minutes and 53 seconds became the earliest goal ever scored by a Galatasaray player in the UEFA Champions League.

It also made the Eagles forward the first player in the club’s history to find the net in seven consecutive European matches, excluding the qualifying rounds.

Osimhen began his remarkable scoring streak during the 2024/2025 UEFA Europa League campaign, where he found the back of the net against Tottenham Hotspur, AZ Alkmaar (twice), Dynamo Kyiv, and Ajax.

His consistency has extended into the Champions League, where he has now scored against both Liverpool and Bodo/Glimt, reaffirming his reputation as one of Europe’s most clinical forwards.

The 26-year-old doubled Galatasaray’s advantage in the 33rd minute, pouncing on a misplaced back pass from the Bodo/Glimt defense to calmly slot past goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.

In the second half, Turkish winger Yunus Akgün added a third goal for Galatasaray after a well-worked team move, sealing a comfortable win for the hosts.
