The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed the Peoples Democratic Governors’ Forum for holding a political rally in Zamfara State days after kidnappings and killings of worshippers by bandits.
Gunmen have repeatedly attacked communities in Zamfara, with a recent report stating that 144 people have been kidnapped, 24 killed and 16 injured across several Local Government Areas in the state.
Last week Tuesday, bandits killed at least 35 Muslims observing an early morning prayer in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
However, the PDP governors held their meeting in the state on Saturday, after which they were adorned with traditional northern robes
In a statement issued on Sunday by Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC National Publicity Secretary, the party described the event as “insensitive” and a show of disregard for victims of the attacks.
“Instead of the governors to rally around their beleaguered colleague to help stop the orgy of killings, they chose to stage a political rally at the scene of mass murder, even if it meant trampling on the memory of the victims,” the statement reads.
“The photos of PDP Governors in full ceremonial robes, grinning for the camera is totally out of place in an environment that still reeks of so much blood and sorrow.
“This act alone further underlines an important fact: neither the ruling APC nor the incurably afflicted PDP care about the people and their suffering. They only care about power and politics.”
The party also criticised President Bola Tinubu for the spate of killings in Zamfara and Katsina states.
