Manchester United suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night, setting an unwanted record in the process.

Everton were reduced to ten men after just 13 minutes when Idrissa Gana Gueye was shown a straight red card for striking teammate Michael Keane in a bizarre altercation. Yet the dismissal did not derail the visitors.
Sixteen minutes later, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall produced a moment of brilliance, weaving past weak challenges on the edge of the box before curling a right-footed strike into the top corner.
United, who had scored first in eight of their opening eleven league matches, were stunned by the setback and never truly recovered. Bruno Fernandes forced Jordan Pickford into a fine save before half-time, but the home crowd were left frustrated by a lack of cutting edge.
After the break, United dominated possession but failed to turn pressure into goals. Fernandes missed a clear chance, while Joshua Zirkzee twice tested Pickford with headers, only for the England goalkeeper to stand firm. Everton held on to secure back-to-back league wins for the first time this season, and just their second victory in 33 visits to Old Trafford.
According to Opta, this was the first time United have ever lost at home to an opponent reduced to ten men, having previously won 36 and drawn 10 of such fixtures. The defeat leaves Amorim’s side tenth in the table with 18 points from 12 games and a goal difference of zero.
For David Moyes, it was a night of satisfaction, his team combining resilience with Dewsbury-Hall’s decisive strike to claim their first Premier League win on a Monday since 2021. For United, it was a sobering reminder of how quickly momentum can evaporate.
