The Ekiti State Police Command said it has arrested a man for allegedly beating his wife to death in the Efon Alaaye area of the state.
It was reported that the suspect, who is a farmer with his deceased wife, had waited for her to join him on the farm but she arrived late.
The husband pounced on her to unleash blows, ignoring his wife’s plea for mercy.
The police say residents who recounted the incident recalled that the woman screamed and begged for help but the suspect continued to inflict injuries on her until she laid on the ground writhing in pain.
The man ordered the wife to get water from the nearby stream but slumped and died on the way.
Confirming the incident, the police command spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, said the accused is in custody and will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
