Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, netted his first Serie A goal of the season in Atalanta’s 1-1 draw with AC Milan on Tuesday sending a message to Gabon of the 2026 World Cup playoffs.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year, who tried moving away from Bergamo in the summer, has endured a slow start to the campaign before eventually getting off the mark against the former Champions at the Gewiss Stadium.
Lookman played a key role in Atalanta’s run to UCL qualification last term, and since his failed moves to Inter and Bayern Munich.
The forward returned to the side for the first time against Torino on match day four, where he played just four minutes. He was then left on the bench for the following game against Juventus. However, he has started every game for Ivan Juric‘s side since then, and his performances have improved with more game time.
On Tuesday night against Milan, Lookman received a pass from midfielder Mario Pasalic before firing into the roof of the net for his side’s leveller in the 35th minute. Samuele Ricci had earlier given Milan the lead in the fourth minute. Atalanta could not find the winner, as they were held to another draw in the Serie A.
Lookman’s Atalanta, who are still unbeaten in the league this season with two wins and seven draws, will face Maduka Okoye’s Udinese in their next league game on Saturday.
