Nigerian rapper, Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Olamide, has suggested that his success in the music industry is premised on his connection with his local base in Nigeria.
The ‘Shakitibobo’ crooner explained that he is proud to identify as a Yoruba boy with an “H factor”, rather than chasing to be accepted on the global stage.
The Lagos-born singer said he is comfortable communicating in a language understood by his base in Nigeria, arguing that the global audience will catch up eventually.
“You have to identify your audience. Once you identify your audience, the rest of the world will catch up eventually. So, I have to stay true to myself and no mater where it is, what it is, I mean, in this world, I have to stay true to myself,” he said in an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra.
“I’m comfortable in my skin. I’m a Naija guy, Yoruba boy, I have H-Factor and all that, and I’m proud about it. You just have to stay true to yourself.”
