Former sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has described the planned probe of his six-month tenure in the state by the state house of assembly as “fool’s errand.”
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Hector Igbikiowubo, Ibas said the legislature lacked the authority to investigate him, stressing that his appointment was the prerogative of the President and duly ratified by the National Assembly.
Ibas argued that any attempt by the state lawmakers to subject him to probe would amount to questioning the competence of the Presidency and the National Assembly, which conferred legitimacy on his appointment.
Upon resumption of plenary last week after the expiration of the state of emergency in the state declared by President Bola Tinubu in March this year, the state assembly resolved to probe how Ibas handled the state’s resources.
