Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has beat the retreat on his earlier statement that there was no agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) restating that the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement is still in effect and enforceable.
According to a statement, Alausa admitted that the 2009 agreement is legally enforceable as at now.
The clarification is coming after he initially told reporters that ASUU’s position is just a draft, adding that said there was no signed agreement.
Alausa added that the 2009 and 2011 agreements which ASUU routinely reference were not formally signed, and were recommendations made during negotiations.
