The Super Eagles have arrived in Marrakech from Fez in Morocco, ahead of tomorrow’s quarter-final clash with Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This followed a boycott threat that disrupted training in the team’s camp on Wednesday, after their 4-0 thrashing of Mozambique in the round of 16 of the tournament.
The players are aggrieved over the non-payment of their match allowances since their first game against Tanzania and have won all the four matches played so far. As a result of the unresolved issues at the time, the players did not hold a training session, raising concerns about the team’s preparations for the knockout stage.
The matter was later resolved through promises, allowing players and officials to proceed with planned arrangements. With the issues technically settled, the Nigerian delegation departed Fez on Thursday, bringing an end to the brief disruption that affected the camp.
The team arrived in Marrakech on Thursday afternoon and held their first training, as preparations continue for the quarter-final encounter. The move to Marrakech marks a return to normal camp activities for the team as they shift focus back to on-field duties.
The Federal Government has promised that the players will get their monies on Friday, in the currencies of their preference. Captain of the side Wilfred Ndidi, has promised to pay his teammates and officials, should the Federal Government renege on its promise.
