Just like he did for the Super Falcons, President Bola Tinubu has conferred national honours on all members of the D’Tigress for winning the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket in Cote d’Ivoire.
Tinubu also pledged $100,000 to each of the players and an additional $50,000 to members of the technical crew.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the event, the president, who announced the rewards while receiving D’Tigress at the presidential villa on Monday, said each player and official in the team will also be getting a flat in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Nigeria beat Mali 78-64 in the Afrobasket final, held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
The triumph makes Nigeria the only nation ever to win the women’s Afrobasket title five times in a row.
At the reception, Tinubu honoured every member of the historic Afrobasket triumph squad with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) award.
