Several passengers have lost their lives after an 18-seater bus conveying mourners to the burial of late Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, was involved in a fatal crash, leaving others injured as well.
According to Sahara Reporters, the tragic incident occurred along the Toru-Orua axis of the Sagbama–Ekeremor Road, a major route in the area.
Initial reports indicated that more than 10 people lost their lives in the crash, while several others sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
The passengers were travelling to Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area to attend the burial od Ewhrudjakpo, who died suddenly on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60, after collapsing in his office at the Government House in Yenagoa.
His burial took place on Friday, following a series of funeral activities, including a Day of Tributes that drew prominent dignitaries such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, and former Governor Seriake Dickson.
