Public affairs commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has condemned Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, of deceiving Nigerians in the diaspora with false impression that Nigerians are no longer hungry or facing hardship.
In a post on X, Shehu urged Nigerians overseas to ignore Akpabio and not be swayed by his claims.
”Nigeria’s debt has reached N170 trillion and continues to grow. Come back home at your own risk,” he posted.
Shehu highlighted that around 139 million Nigerians are facing severe hunger, and claimed that Akpabio is misrepresenting the true situation back home to citizens living abroad.
He also pointed out that Nigeria presently has 60 million unemployed youths, with over 30 million children nationwide suffering from severe malnutrition.
He urged people to “Refresh themselves with the Lord’s teachings about leaders who profit from falsehood and have made deceit a way of life.”
In addition, he quoted several verses from the Holy Bible, claiming that the Senate President’s “mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.”
Furthermore, he cited Ephesians 5:6, which reads, “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.”
He added: “Jeremiah 9:6, ‘You live in the midst of deception; in their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me,’ declares the LORD.”
