Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded after an Abuja-Kaduna passenger train derailed on Tuesday, close to Jere Station.
Although no passenger died during the accident, passengers have been left shocked and traumatized with the train’s detainment.
In a video trending online, onlookers could be heard saying “the train is full and they are coming out”.
The train’s derailment comes few days after the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, stated that one of the coaches’ wheels on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service, AKTS, experienced a hot axle several kilometres from Rigasa Station in Kaduna.
The incident, which happened on August 20, was blamed on hot wheel friction resulting from abnormal temperatures fueled by excessive heat on the journal housing.
Chief Public Relations Officer for the Management, Callistus Unyimadu, in a statement, noted that the situation was swiftly brought under control and the train marshalled to Kaduna for safety.
