Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has said African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition will not stop at anything to defend Nigeria’s democracy.
Abubakar stated this on Monday, during meetings with Aminu Tambuwal, senator representing Sokoto South; and Abubakar Malami, the former Attorney-General of the Federation.
In a post on X post, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) noted that opposition leaders are working to rescue democracy in Nigeria.
“We will be unrelenting in defending the rights of every Nigerian being harassed by anti-democratic forces of the Tinubu-led APC administration,” Abubakar wrote.
“The coalition that we are pushing is aimed at rescuing our democracy from the stranglehold of this emerging dictatorship. We shall be deliberate in joining hands in saving our democracy.”
On September 5, Abubakar said recent events in Kaduna, Katsina, and other states point to a troubling drift towards authoritarianism under President Bola Tinubu.
He alleged that the invitations extended to Nasir el-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna and leaders of the ADC in the state by the police; the attack on the convoy of Malami, and the disruption of a Katsina Elders Forum meeting on security reforms; were not isolated events.
