Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke has cast doubt on Arsenal’s Premier League title credentials, insisting Mikel Arteta’s side will ‘do what Arsenal do again’ and fail to get over the line.
Despite Arsenal’s impressive start to the season—winning eight of their opening 11 matches, scoring 20 goals, and conceding just five, Yorke believes history will repeat itself.
The Gunners, who last won the league in 2004, have finished runners-up in each of the past three seasons, and Yorke predicts they will fall short once more.
‘I just think Arsenal will do what Arsenal do again,’ Yorke told Snabbare. ‘I have a funny feeling that somehow they won’t get it over the line.’ He added that Arteta’s attempt to balance multiple competitions could prove costly, stressing that domestic success must remain the priority.
With Liverpool struggling, Yorke tipped Manchester City to reclaim the title, citing Pep Guardiola’s experience and ‘know-how’ as decisive factors.
‘It could get pretty chaotic,’ he said. ‘I think Man City just have that know-how.’
Guardiola himself recently praised Arsenal’s form, describing them as ‘almost impossible to catch’ if they continue their current run.
However, he cautioned that the season is long and no title is won in November. His comments came before Arsenal dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Sunderland, while City responded by thrashing Liverpool 3-0.
Arsenal now face a crucial test in the north London derby against Tottenham on Sunday, while City travel to Newcastle as they look to close the gap at the top of the table.
