Arsenal have been dealt a major injury scare ahead of the North London derby after Gabriel Magalhaes was forced off during Brazil’s friendly against Senegal.
The centre-back, who has been a rock at the heart of Mikel Arteta’s defence, appeared to pull up in discomfort before signalling to the bench.
The 27-year-old was replaced in the second half by Wesley, leaving Brazil’s coaching staff concerned and Arsenal fans fearing the worst.
Gabriel was seen walking gingerly to the bench after a prolonged period lying on the pitch, with Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti later confirming the ace had injured his adductor.
The Italian revealed: ‘Bad (injury)? I don’t know, he had a problem on his adductor the medical staff have to check tomorrow.
‘We are really sorry for this, really disappointed, when players have an injury I hope they can recover well and soon.’
Gabriel’s potential absence comes at the worst possible time for Arsenal, who face arch-rivals Tottenham in one of the most crucial fixtures of their season after the international break.
Arteta has relied heavily on Gabriel’s partnership with William Saliba, and losing him would be a massive blow to the Gunners’ preparations.
