Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nicholas Ukachukwu, in the Anambra governorship election conducted on Saturday, defeated the Labour Party’s candidate, George Moghalu, at the polling unit of Peter Obi.
Ukachukwu polled 73 votes while Moghalu scored 57 votes at polling unit 019, Agulu ward 11, Anaocha Local Government Area pf the state.
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third in the same unit with 38 votes.
Speaking after voting, Obi expressed concerns over the increasing level of financial inducement among voters.
“It is sad that bad governance is fuelling vote buying and selling,” Obi said.
He added that reports indicated votes were being traded for between N15,000 and N30,000.
Obi also campaigned for his party in the election in a state where he had won over 95 percent of the votes in the 2023 presidential election.
Ukachukwu also won in his polling unit in Umudiala village, Osumenyi, Nnewi south LGA.
At polling unit 12, ward 2, the APC recorded 108 votes, while Charles Soludo, incumbent governor and APGA candidate, polled four votes. Other parties recorded no votes, while two votes were declared invalid.
The results were sorted and counted by Maduka Evan, the presiding officer of INEC at the polling unit.
Ukachukwu had earlier expressed confidence about his performance in the election.
The LP governorship candidate claimed that despite the heavy deployment of security personnel for the election, he had received reports of widespread vote buying.
The LP candidate also lost his polling unit in Uruagu Ward 1, Nnewi north LGA.
