The Lagos State Government has postponed all Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE, papers earlier slated for Wednesday, July 1, 2026, following the declaration of the Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division.
The decision, disclosed by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board, affects only the examination papers slated for Wednesday, while all other papers will hold on their previously scheduled dates.
The government said the 2026 BECE started on Monday, June 29, 2026, but the examination timetable was adjusted after consultations with relevant stakeholders.
The statement clarified that the affected papers have been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
It stated that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard the lives of candidates, examination officials and other stakeholders, while also ensuring the smooth and orderly conduct of the examination without disruption.
“The affected examination papers will now be written on Tuesday, 7th July 2026, while all other examination papers will be conducted on their previously scheduled dates,” the statement said.
The Board expressed regret over any inconvenience the adjustment may cause and appealed to parents, guardians, school administrators, candidates and members of the public for their understanding and cooperation.
Candidates have been advised to obtain the revised examination timetable through their respective schools and prepare adequately for the rescheduled papers.
