These are not rosy times for some road users as a snarling traffic occasioned by ongoing rehabilitation and rainfall has escalated the nerves of thousands of commuters and motorists plying the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
As a result of the gridlock that has lasted all week, minister of works, David Umahi,
ordered contractors to quickly reopen all accessible sections.
The minister gave the directive through a statement issued by his media aide, Francis Nwaze.
Security agencies have been deployed in strategic points along the corridor to make sure there is safety and maintain order.
Umahi also confirmed that an initial accident that worsened traffic had been cleared.
The Abuja-Kaduna highway is one of Nigeria’s busiest routes, linking the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to northern states.
Several road travellers had complained of exhausting journeys that stretched far beyond normal travel time due to the combined effects of the reconstruction and holiday rush.
