The Federal Government has started the payment of delayed 2025 allowances for diaspora Nigerian students under the Bilateral Education Agreement BEA, programme.

This positive update was given in a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education on May 19, 2026.

The ministry disclosed that the Central Bank of Nigeria, transferred approved funds to Nigerian embassies and foreign missions for onward payment to beneficiaries across partner countries.

Minister of Education Maruf Tunji Alausa, said that the amount released covers half of the outstanding obligations approved for 2025, pointing out that arrangements are being made for the payment of the remaining balance.

The ministry clarified that the money had already gotten to the accounts of the affected embassies, with beneficiaries expected to begin receiving payments through the various missions.

“No Nigerian student pursuing academic excellence under government scholarship schemes will be left unsupported,” the statement read.
