Former Plateau State governor, David Jonah Jang, has declared that the state still belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jang, who is leader of the PDP in the state, also said Raymond Dabo, who was elected as the party chairman in the October 2025 Congress held by the faction of the PDP loyal to Tanimu Turaki, remains the authentic chairman of the PDP in the state.
The ex-senator said this while reacting to the parallel Congress held on March 17 by another faction of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, where Peter Tongshep was elected as its chairman.
Jang carpeted the Wike faction of the party, while describing the Congress as a ‘Kangaroo Congress.’
The former governor bared his mind in a statement issued on his behalf by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba on Monday.
He condemned the Wike-led congress, stating that it was held by some self-seeking, power-hungry individuals who connived with undemocratic forces outside the state to further discredit the PDP.
The former senator also knocked insinuations that the PDP in the state is dead with no structures, insisting that at no time did the State Working Committee of the party have any cracks since they were duly elected in a well-organised Congress monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
“So, as far as the law and the supporters of the PDP are concerned, there is no reason to organise any congress in the first place; therefore, all actions of those involved in the so-called congress, both legally and publicly, are null and void and of no effect,” part of the statement reads.
“We are aware of the ongoing crisis at the national level, and as party leaders, we are doing everything possible to resolve every issue and reposition the party for unity and progress.
“Plateau is PDP, and PDP is Plateau. The State Working Committee of the PDP, led by Chairman Chief Raymond Dabo, is the only recognised party executive in the state,” he said.
“Raymond Dabo remains the authentic chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Plateau State chapter,” Jang said, adding that he and other PDP stakeholders have been meeting in Abuja over the past two weeks, and that discussions will continue this week with the hope of resolving the issues,” he added.
He, however, called on all genuine party members to stay steadfast and remain united, believing that all issues will be resolved soon while urging those he described as agents of distraction in the state to cease their harmful acts, stressing that genuine party members should focus on resolving issues rather than complicating them.
