President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to be deeply concerned by the growing burden of rising fuel prices on Nigerians due to global economic realities.

This was contained in a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the Jigawa State Governor, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel and issued to DAILY POST.

The statement said the governor disclosed this during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Dutse, where he addressed residents shortly after receiving the Emir of Dutse and other traditional leaders at the Hawan Bariki Durbar on Saturday.

He said the president is seriously disturbed with the situation and initiated plans to cushion the effect including efforts to reduce transportation costs across the country.

According to the governor, the recent increase in petroleum prices, linked to ongoing developments in the Middle East, has placed additional pressure on citizens, particularly in transportation and cost of living.

He, however, assured that the Federal Government is not unaware of the situation, noting that President Tinubu has directed that steps be taken to ease the hardship.

“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” Namadi said.

The governor explained that part of the intervention would focus on introducing alternative measures to bring down transportation cost, which has surged following the fuel price hike.

He added that the Jigawa State Government would compliment federal efforts by implementing policies and support programmes aimed at cushioning the economic pressure on residents.

Namadi emphasized that while the current situation may be challenging, ongoing interventions by both levels of government are expected to provide relief and stabilize living conditions for citizens.

This follows public concern over the rising cost of fuel and its ripple effect on transportation, food prices, and other essential services across the country.
