Obi to Nigerians: Voter’s card is your most powerful weapon against bad leadership

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has vowed to challenge the Electoral Act 2026 in court, saying the laws were quickly passed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to allow the party “snatch” the 2027 election results.

Obi spoke on Saturday, while formally registering as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The former Anambra governor registered on Saturday at Agulu ward 2 in Anaocha LGA of Anambra, during the flag-off of the party’s membership and mobilisation exercise.

According to Arise Television, Obi said he will challenge the Electoral Act 2026 in court while alleging that the legislation was “hurriedly passed” to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 elections.

He added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no reason to dictate how political parties elect their candidates during primary elections.

“All the laws being hurriedly churned out now are simply aimed at enabling them to snatch the 2027 presidential election and run away with it,” Obi said.

“But this time, we will catch them. We have seen all the reviews of the Electoral Act, and INEC has no reason to dictate how parties should elect their candidates.

“INEC should focus on how to conduct elections. They now choose to abandon their work as referee and then want to teach a coach how to select their players.

“We are now the country with the worst power problem, but what they are talking about is how to snatch and run with election results. This time, we will not let them run.

“We want to register as many people as possible because the election of 2027 will be against bad leadership.”

Obi said the south-east geopolitical zone is working as a “family” and that notable persons in the zone are in the ADC.

In December 2025, Obi announced his intention to join coalition-backed ADC.
