The Obidient Movement has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress , APC, of attempting to undermine free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria, citing the party’s control of the National Assembly and recent legislative actions.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, the movement described it as “ironic and hypocritical” that the APC relies on electronic registration and digital processes for its internal party affairs while resisting similar transparency measures in national elections.

The group warned that Nigeria’s democratic future is at risk, alleging that electoral reforms are being deliberately stalled to serve the interests of a political elite.

It called on Nigerians, civil society organisations, and the international community to oppose what it described as a dangerous regression in the country’s democratic process.

Referencing irregularities recorded during the 2023 general elections, the Obidient Movement said such practices must not be repeated in 2027.

It urged citizens to remain vigilant and prepared to lawfully resist any attempt at electoral manipulation.

The movement also appealed to the international community to closely monitor what it described as ongoing efforts to lay the groundwork for future electoral interference in Nigeria.

As part of its response, the group announced plans for a peaceful march to the National Assembly.

According to the statement, the protest aims to pressure both chambers to convene an emergency session and pass legislation mandating real-time electronic transmission of election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IREV).

The statement reads: “The Obidient Movement said the demand reflects the will of the Nigerian people and called on citizens nationwide to participate in the protest in pursuit of electoral transparency and democratic reform.

“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which controls the National Assembly, has clearly demonstrated its intent to undermine free, fair, and credible elections.

“It is both ironic and hypocritical for a party that deploys e-registration and electronic processes for its internal affairs to deny Nigerians the same level of transparency in national elections.

“We, the Obidient Movement, will not stand idly by while the future of our nation is being mortgaged for the political gain of a privileged few. We call on all Nigerians, civil society organisations, and the international community to join us in resisting this dangerous backward slide.

“The criminality witnessed during the 2023 elections will not be tolerated in 2027. Nigerians everywhere must be prepared to rise up, resist, and reject this deliberate act of democratic sabotage, and to legitimately and decisively reclaim our country.”
