The Armed Forces in Ghana has released the identities of victims of Wednesday’s military helicopter crash.
The crash involved a Z-9 helicopter belonging to the Ghana Armed Forces, which lost contact during a flight from Accra, the country’s capital, to Obuasi — a gold-mining town in the south, where the crew were going on an official assignment.
Ghanaian President John Mahama described the incident as a national tragedy and suspended activities after receiving the news.
He also directed that flags fly at half-mast to honour the memory of the victims.

- Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for environment, science and technology
- Muniru Mohammed – Acting deputy, national security coordinator and former minister for food and agriculture
- Samuel Sarpong – Vice-chairman, National Democratic Congress (NDC).
- Samuel Aboagye – Former parliamentary candidate
- Peter Baafemi Anala – Squadron leader
- Manaen Twum Ampadu – Flying officer
- Ernest Addo – Sergeant
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has condoled with the people and government of Ghana upon receiving the news. He urged the bereaved families to find comfort in the knowledge that their loved ones died in the line of patriotic service to the country.
