A yet-to-be-named man in the Federal Capital Territory has died after crashing into a stationary trailer while rushing his sick father to the hospital.
According to Daily Trust on Monday, the tragic incident occurred near the popular police signpost at Lugbe, along the Airport Road.
The deceased was reportedly speeding toward the same Sabon-Lugbe hospital when the crash happened.
Eyewitnesses said the man, who was driving a Toyota Highlander SUV with his ailing father inside, rammed into the trailer from behind.
They said the impact trapped him behind the steering wheel, killing him on the spot.
However, the father survived the crash.
It was further stated that the man was allegedly on a phone call moments before he lost control and ran into the parked trailer.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) from the Lugbe Unit Command quickly arrived at the scene and evacuated the trapped driver to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The sick father was also moved to a private hospital in Sabon-Lugbe for treatment.
The FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, confirmed the incident.
