The Carabao Cup quarter-final fixtures have been confirmed, with four intriguing ties set to take place during the week beginning 15 December.
The draw has thrown up a mix of repeat encounters and fresh tests, as Premier League giants and Championship hopefuls battle for a place in the semi-finals.
Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Arsenal will host Crystal Palace in a London derby that has become increasingly familiar this season. The Gunners have already faced Palace once in the Premier League this season, winning 1–0 thanks to their growing reputation for set-piece precision.
Palace, however, will be buoyed by their stunning 3–0 win over Liverpool in the previous round, and manager Oliver Glasner will be eager to avenge those narrow defeats. Arsenal, unbeaten in 11 games and yet to concede in their last six, will likely field a blend of youth and experience, as they did in their win over Brighton.
Newcastle United vs Fulham
Newcastle United welcome Fulham to St James’ Park in a clash between two sides with contrasting cup histories. The Magpies, holders of the Carabao Cup, reached the last eight with a commanding 2–0 win over Tottenham, showcasing their aerial dominance.
Fulham, meanwhile, edged past their opponents in the previous round and will be looking to upset the odds. The last time these two met in the league, Newcastle ran out 3–0 winners, but Fulham’s recent form suggests a tighter contest could be on the cards.
Manchester City vs Brentford
Manchester City will face Brentford at the Etihad Stadium, having just survived a scare against Swansea in the last round. Late goals from Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki helped Pep Guardiola’s side come from behind to win 3–1.
Brentford, known for their resilience and tactical discipline, will be hoping to repeat their shock 1–0 win over City from last season’s Premier League finale. However, City’s depth and cup pedigree, eight-time winners of the competition, ake them firm favourites.
Cardiff City vs Chelsea
Championship side Cardiff City will host Chelsea in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter. Chelsea survived a chaotic 4–3 thriller against Wolves to reach the quarter-finals, with young talents like Andrey Santos and Estevao Willian stepping up.
Cardiff, who have quietly progressed through the rounds, will relish the chance to test themselves against top-flight opposition. The two sides haven’t met since the 2018/19 Premier League season, when Chelsea won both fixtures, but the Bluebirds will hope home advantage can inspire an upset.
